Effects of Shallow Groundwater on Deep Groundwater Dynamics in a Slow-Moving Landslide Site

چکیده

A slow-moving landslide is a mass movement that has major societal impact because of its large sediment volume. The principal cause landslides increased pore water pressure in deep aquifer close to the slip surface. Elucidation behavior groundwater critical stability analysis landslides. Shallow groundwater, which flows through regolith, can undergo vertical infiltration and thus make contribution formation but this not been sufficiently elucidated. aim present study was investigate effects shallow on dynamics regolith. At site, with an area 4200 m2, levels were observed. 1-m-depth temperature survey quality also performed. Water budget using level showed former half rainfall event, infiltrates vertically regolith plays central role raising level. In addition, preferential flow from aquifers suggested be important infiltration. results emphasize importance including when modeling groundwater.

environmental effects of gol-e-gohar iron ore mine on groundwater of the area

gol-e-gohar iron ore mine of sirjan in southern part of iran is a large open pit that operates below the groundwater table and during mining operation, dewatering is required to prevent operation processes from flooding. current operation is going on by digging wells in or out of the pit and pumping to prevent flooding. as a result of the former dewatering operation a vast deep cone of depressi...

Quantification of Shallow Groundwater Nutrient Dynamics in Septic Areas

Of all groundwater pollution sources, septic systems are the second largest source of groundwater nitrate contamination in USA. This study investigated shallow groundwater (SGW) nutrient dynamics in septic areas at the northern part of the Lower St. Johns River Basin, Florida, USA. Thirty-five SGW-monitoring wells, located at nine different urban areas served by septic systems, were used to col...

Shallow Groundwater Use by Alfalfa

Disposal of saline drainage water is a significant problem for irrigated agriculture. One proposal is to recycle drainage water to irrigate salt tolerant crops until the volume has been reduced sufficiently to enable final disposal by evaporation. Part of this concept requires in-situ crop water use from shallow groundwater; and data is needed to quantify the potential use of groundwater by alt...

The Darcian method was used to estimate groundwater recharge Point estimates of groundwater recharge at 48 sediment-coring from water-retention parameters and unsaturated hylocations vary substantially ( 18.5–1840 cm yr 1) in a 930-km2 area of southern New Jersey. Darcian estimates of steady, long-term recharge draulic conductivity on the basis of sedimen...

Microbial Nitrate Processing in Shallow Groundwater in a Riparian Forest

We measured denitrification, immobilization, and respiration in microcosms that simulated groundwater conditions in a riparian forest in Rhode Island. Measured rates were compared with rates of NOj" removal measured in a companion study using a groundwater monitoring well network and 10-mo injection of NOf and a bromide tracer to groundwater in the same riparian forest. Limiting factors for den...
